Egypt lies in the northern corner of Africa. It is bounded by the international frontiers of the Mediterranean Sea in the North, Gaza strip and the Red Sea in the East, Libya in the west and Sudan in the south.
The country has long played an i mportant role in connecting Africa with Asia on one hand, and the Mediterranean with the Indian Ocean on the other hand, and as such has been at the corner of the world's political and economical arena.
Most of the country's territory lies in Africa. Howev er, Sinai which lies in the easternmost portion of Egypt, is considered to be a part of Asia and the only land bridge between the two continents.
Egypt administratively consists of a number of governorates, regions, districts and villages. Egypt currentl y encompasses 27 governorates.

The total area of Egypt is approximately one million Krn2 Egypt's population is about 107 million people 92 million inside the country and 15 million outside
the country.
Egypt is the most populous count try in the Arab world and the second most populous on the African continent after Nigeria. Most Egyptians tend to live in Cairo (the capital) and Alexandria (the second major city after the capital); as

Despite the efforts paid by the Egyptian government to encourage migration to newly irrigated land reclaimed from the desert, Much of Egypt's national income relies on agriculture, along with tourism, petroleum exports and capital

desert.
The Nile valley is the pioneer of the ancient Pharaonic kingdoms, as the
development of all ancient civilizations was impossible without rivers.
The River Nile in the north is divided into two branches, Damietta and Rachid
embracing the highly fertile agricultural land of the Delta. The Nile valley in
Egypt occupies only 4% of the total land area in Egypt. The desert and arid

The Eastern Desert

The Eastern Desert extends from the Nile Valley in the West to the Red Sea, Suez gulf, and Suez Canal in the East, and from Lake Manzala on the Mediterranean in the North to Egypt's southern borders with Sudan i n the south. The Eastern desert region is inclusive of the land adjoining the Red sea, the Red Sea hills and the desert between the hills and the Red sea coast. There are no oases in the region and the Bedouins mostly inhabit the region. However, the miner deposits of the Eastern desert make it an economically important zone for Egypt. The Eastern Desert is a fascinating and vast landscape of sand, rocks, oases and mountains.
The Eastern Desert is marked with the Eastern Mountains that range along the Red Sea with peaks that rise to about 3000 feet above the sea level. This desert is a store of Egyptian natural resources including various ores such as gold, coal, and oil. Amongst the most famous cities in this region are: El Ain El Sokhna, Hurghada,Safaga , Al Quseir, Port Ghalib, Marsa Alam, in addition to some protected areas.

The region extends from the Nile Valley in the East to the Libyan borders in the west, and from the Mediterranean in the north to the Egyptian southern boarders. The Western desert encompasses Qattara depression which is below sea level. The water in Qattara Depression is salty a nd thus, badlands, salt marshes, and salt lakes cover this sparsely inhabited area.

Sinai Peninsula

Sinai is a triangle shaped peninsula located in Southwest Asia with its base at the Mediterranean in the North and its apex at Ras Mohammed in the South, the Gulf of Aqaba and the Israeli Egyptian border to the East and the Gulf of Suez & Suez Canal to the west.
