The Royal Library of Alexandria, located in Alexandria, Egypt, was the largest and most important library of the ancient world. I t was part of the Museum of Alexandria, functioning as a research institute. Alongside the library, the
Museum housed rooms for studying astronomy, anatomy, and even a zoo of exotic animals. Many classical thinkers studied, wrote, and experimented at the Museum, including pioneers in mathematics, engineering, physiology,
geography, and medicine. Some notable figures associated with the library include Euclid, Archimedes, Erasistratus, Hypatia, Aristarchus of Samos, and Catherine of Alexandria.

Qaitbay Citadel

In 882 H (1477 AD) the Mamluke Sultan El Ashraf Qaitbay visited Alexandria amid a huge celebration of the people of Alexandria with him; during his visit to the city, The Sultan Qaitbay ordered to erect a Citadel to be one of his fortressed defensive edifices against the Turks, who were threatening Egypt and the wholearea during this time. The Citadel of Qaitbay (Fort of Qaitbay) was one of the most important defensive fortresses in Egypt and along the Mediterranean coast.

The Graeco Roman Museum

The museum was originally built in 1892 as a small building on Horreya Road.In 1895, it moved to its current location near Gamal Abdul Nasser Road. It started with eleven galleries and has since been expanded through renovations. The 25th gallery was added in 1984. It showcases a wide variety of coins from different countries, dating back from 630 BC to the Ottoman period in the 19th century.

The Mosque of Abu El Abbas El Mursi

The most importnat historic mosque in Alexandria, Egypt, is the Abu El A bbas El Mursi mosque, known for its beauty. Built in 1775 by Algerians, it was built over the tomb of the 13th century Murcia Andalusian saint, Ahmed Abu al Abbas al Mursi. He was a devout Sufi who joined and later led the Shadhali brotherhood.

Al Attareen Mosque

The Attareen district is considered to be one of the most interesting areas in Alexandria. It is a sprawling antiques district. There are antique shops piled high with European furniture and trinkets that date back to Napoleonic times.
The Attareen Mosque is located in the middle of this unique area, on Attarine Mosque Street. This mosque was originally a church dedicated to Saint Athanasius in 370 AD.When Islam came to Egypt, the church was converted into a small
mosque which eventually ca me to be known as the Mosque of a Thousand Columns.
